Chrysalis Monolith: Confucian Ideals (2018)
An animated digital matte painting explores the perception of gender roles in South Korea.
The design of the eerie architectural object in the painting symbolizes the assignment of gender roles influenced by the Confucian ideology adopted by the country. While the ideology itself is not inherently discriminatory, political and social forces have transformed it, much like the repetitive metamorphosis of a chrysalis into a butterfly seen in the country today.
